Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners activated rookie reliever Shawn Kelley from the 15-day disabled list on Friday. Kelley has been sidelined since May 6 with a strained oblique muscle in his left side. The right-hander suffered the injury a day earlier in a loss to the Rangers where he actually collapsed to the ground from the pain after throwing a pitch.
The 25-year-old is 1-1 with a 1.54 earned run average in 10 appearances for Seattle this season.
In a corresponding move, the Mariners optioned infielder Mike Carp to Triple-A Tacoma. Carp was 3-for-8 (.375) in five games since getting the call from Tacoma on June 17.
