Listen to Ja Rule on iHeartRadio
Ja Rule is due to be released from an upstate New York prison after serving nearly two years there for illegal gun possession. The New York rapper had planned to get in the studio with rapper and producer Irv Gotti immediately after gaining his freedom, according to his Twitter account. But it looks like it's "not so fast" for the rapper.
Associated Press is reporting that Ja will be going straight into federal custody in order to finish time remaining on a 28-month sentence for tax evasion. According to AP, he may have less than six months left.
The jail sentence the rapper just completed was due to pleading guilty in 2010 to a charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The charge stemmed from a 2007 incident when police pulled Ja Rule over in his car for a minor traffic violation. A search of the vehicle uncovered a 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol and marijuana. Ja Rule began his sentence on June 7th, 2011.
Before being locked up, Ja managed to lay down most of the tracks for his eighth album Renaissance Project. The album, which does not yet have a release date, is set to feature Christina Milian and Young C.
